Stay motivated to exercise
Do you sometimes struggle to find the motivation to exercise? Today I want to share with you a few simple ways you can stay motivated to exercise. I’ve broken it down into 7 steps.
Make working out part of your routine
The first way to stay motivated to exercise is to make working out part of your routine. Schedule your workouts in your calendar as an appointment. I’ve found this to work quite well for myself and my clients as it becomes a habit.
Get an accountability buddy
Get a friend, family member, work colleague etc who has similar goals to you and train together. Training together helps massively with motivation as you can hold each other accountable to your goals & give each other that extra push when you are struggling.
Set clear goals
Set yourself some clear goals for your training. These goals should be set using the SMART principle. This means they should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and have a Time frame. An example could be I want to lose 20 lbs in 20 weeks.
Do the types of exercise you enjoy
If exercise is more enjoyable it’s more likely that you will do it. So try to find out which types of exercise you enjoy doing and which you least enjoy. For example if you love going to classes go to more classes. If you hate cardio do less of it.
When you set goals put in place a reward you get for achieving that goal. This provides you with something to work towards, and gives you extra motivation to achieve your goal. For example it could be a holiday or it could be something as simple as a meal at your fave restaurant.
Make it a competition
Turn exercising into a competition, we all have a competitive streak in us we love the feeling of winning something. A way you could make exercise competitive is to do some kind of gym challenge with your friends. For example a plank off, see who can hold a plank for the longest.
Track of success rate
Keep a record of how often you actually workout. I recommend an app called habitbull for doing this. This app allows you set yourself habits for example going to the gym 4 times a week, you then have to tick off on a calendar when you do this habit. It also reminds you do this habit.
