What To Eat After A Workout
Fuelling your workouts is important if you want to get the best results. In my last blog post I covered what to eat before a workout (read that here) In today’s blog I’m going to cover what to eat after a workout to help kick start the recovery process.
Ideally you want eat within 2 hours of finishing a workout and it should be a meal that combines protein and carbs. Doing this helps your body to: decrease muscle protein breakdown, increase muscle protein synthesis (growth), restore glycogen stores and enhances your recovery.
Examples of what to eat after a workout
Here’s some examples of food to consume post workout: A protein shake & a banana, baked potato with cottage cheese (baked beans, chilli or tuna would also work) fruit & yogurt or a protein bar.
A protein bar or protein shake is often the most popular choice, as these are convenient and be consumed pretty quickly. But you can consume almost anything post workout. As long as it contains a mix of protein and carbs and is withing your calorie targets.
