What To Eat Before A Workout

I run a free facebook group where I post weight loss tips, and recently a member asked me what to eat before a workout. So in today’s blog I am going to talk about what to eat before a workout and include examples of meal ideas.

Ideally you want to eat a Low GI mealĀ  2-4 Hours before a workout. This is a meal that provides a slower release of energy. For example: porridge, cereal with milk (whole grain cereal and semi skimmed milk), jacket potato with beans (low sugar kind), a chicken sandwich and tuna & pasta etc.

Ideally this meal should combine carbohydrates with a protein sourceĀ  as this will provide a slower release of energy than just carbohydrates.

And finally just before you do a workout (20-30 mins) consume a small snack that will provide a quick release of energy such as: fruit, nuts or a sports drink.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what to eat before a workout but just to recap… it should be a mix of protein and carbs consumed 2-4 hours before you workout and finally 20-30 mins before a workout a quick release of energy such as some fruit or nuts.
